In the Beatitudes, Jesus calls us to change our vision of life; to see life from God's perspective; to understand what is really important; to live by new standards. He offers us directions for a new path through life, a path which will lead us to eternal happiness. Yet, we should not underestimate the extent to which the values promoted by Jesus will require us to deviate from the path followed by many others in society.
...the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
...those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
...the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
...those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
...the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
...the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
...the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
...those who are persecuted for "righteousness" sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
